“You never know…”(how it started)
No One Fights Alone
Sweet by Nature, Tough by Necessity
When I was nine years old, I was diagnosed as a Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetic. I remember hearing “Well, ya never know” from specialists who thought it was nuts that 2 siblings both ended up being diagnosed and neither parent had it. (I fear I am aging myself, but they truly were astounded. Now it is more commonplace to sadly have not just one child with T1D, but multiple.)
Those early days were filled with endless testing, countless injections, and the uncertainty that comes with learning to manage a lifelong condition. Through it all, I learned perseverance, empathy, and the power of community.
My only sibling was diagnosed six years before me, so our family’s connection to the diabetes community runs deep. From an early age, we understood both the challenges and the importance of support, advocacy, and shared hope for better days ahead.
I’m most at peace when I’m creating. Art brings me joy—it’s where I feel most connected and stress-free. I love taking in art of all kinds, because it truly is everywhere if we just pause to see it. That belief became a cornerstone of Bound Together Studio: that beauty, creativity, and purpose can coexist and bring people together in meaningful ways.
Life teaches us that we never fully know what someone else may be facing. Many live with battles that have no clear end or cure. In those times, community, compassion, and even a little laughter can make all the difference. That’s why I pour heart and intention into every piece I create.
Each diabetes awareness design and product at Bound Together Studio is chosen with purpose because I’ve lived this journey—I understand the needs, the fears, and the hope that comes from progress. Every purchase also helps fund research through Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), whose work continues to drive advancements for those living with Type 1 diabetes.
My story, my art, and my mission are bound together—to remind us that creativity can heal, hope can grow from hardship, and together, we can make a difference.
Meaning of the Celtic Knots
The Meaning of the Knots: Resilience in Every Loop
At Bound Together Studio, we believe our jewelry should do more than just look beautiful—it should tell your story. We use ancient Celtic knotwork to symbolize the strength, protection, and unbroken spirit of the chronic illness community.
Double Infinity
The Meaning of the Double Infinity: Boundless Strength
The Double Infinity represents two eternal paths that are permanently intertwined. At our studio, we see it as the ultimate symbol for those navigating a life-long journey:
Intertwined Lives: It symbolizes the unbreakable bond; whether a caregiver and a warrior, or the shared strength of a community that stays "Bound Together."
Balance & Harmony: Like the tides of the Florida coast, life with a chronic condition has its ebbs and flows. The Double Infinity represents the constant, rhythmic balance required to manage mind, body, and spirit.
Perpetual Resilience: While a single infinity represents eternity, the double infinity represents limitless possibility. It is a reminder that your diagnosis is just one path—your strength, creativity, and spirit form the other, creating a beautiful, complex whole.
The "Double Warrior" Spirit: For those managing multiple conditions or navigating the complexities of T1D, this knot signifies a doubled layer of protection and endurance.
The Shield Knot: A Guardian of Health
Traditionally used to ward off illness and misfortune, the Shield Knot was etched into the armor of ancient warriors. In our studio, we can engrave this symbol on Personalized ID Cards and jewelry as a modern talisman of protection and safety, alongside the star of life indicating health conditions for EMS.
The Dara Knot: Deep-Rooted Strength
Inspired by the complex root system of the sacred oak tree (Doire), the Dara Knot represents inner strength and endurance. It is the ultimate symbol of resilience, reminding us that even in the most challenging seasons, our roots remain unshakable.
The Trinity Knot (Triquetra): Balance of Mind, Body, and Spirit
This three-pointed knot reflects the essential harmony between our physical health, mental wellbeing, and spiritual strength. For those navigating chronic conditions, it serves as a reminder of the balance required to move forward each day.
The Sailor’s Knot: Navigating Life’s Tides
Merging our beach-themed roots with Celtic tradition, the Sailor’s Knot represents a bond that cannot be broken. It symbolizes a safe passage through life’s turbulence and the enduring support of the community that keeps us "Bound Together"
